Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition?
I am not currently involved, but am very interested in this issue.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I feel the current paradigm of endless growth/expansion of markets/consumption/ population increase is leading to our extinction as a species and the destruction of the planet's current biosphere balance. Perhaps human extinction is the necessary corrective to this "runaway train," but I would like to think we are smart enough beings that we could change our mindset, change our course, and develop a more sustainable, healthy paradigm for our species survival and for our planet's survival.
In what neighborhood or part of the county do you reside?
South Bellingham

Carbon Neutral Home in England

Posted on May 24, 2011 at 8:57am 0 Comments

This  video is a "walk-through" of a carbon neutral home built as a demo. It doesn't really provide a lot of space to store one's accumulated junk. Maybe that's part of the point.

Eco Shock Podcast well worth listening to

Posted on March 29, 2010 at 2:36pm 1 Comment

I'm glad I listened to this podcast. The first segment is with Shaun Chamberlin, author of "The Transition Timeline." He discusses the Transition Movement in Britain and does a great job summarizing the positive aspects of transition.

The promo for the podcast:

DARK OPTIMISM How do we handle Peak Oil AND climate change? Shaun Chamberlin from UK Transition Towns, energy writer Kurt Cobb, plus

Richard Heinberg on renewable hope, with Lester Brown.

"Capitalism-A Love Story" now available on dvd

Posted on March 13, 2010 at 8:53pm 0 Comments

Many of you are most likely already aware of Michael Moore's latest documentary, "Capitalism-A Love Story."

However, if you missed it during its theatrical run, I suggest you will be well rewarded by viewing it on dvd. The reason for saying this is not just the value of looking at our capitalistic economic system with "fresh eyes," which you will get with Moore's trademark humor (and cynicism), but also for the extras contained on the dvd that… Continue

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I do not get a lot of feedback on my writing so I have no idea if anyone is paying attention or not.

Hi Rob,
The Center for Local Self-Reliance is seeking to remodel the old Caretaker's House in Fairhaven Park to utilize as a educational facility for skills such as gardening, preserving, soil-building, seed collecting and much more. We are currently in the process of getting the old house up to code and turning the lawn into a garden area. Our energy right now is raising funds for needed repairs. We hope to be able to offer classes there in the very near future! Please visit our website at www.caretakershouse.org. Thanks for your interest!
