Letters from Gregory Bateson to Philip Wylie and Warren McCulloch

Power struggle

Posted on December 5, 2012 at 7:23am 1 Comment

On the first night of Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program Certification offered by the IBEW 191, the topic of the price of power came up. FERC mandates states sell citizens the lowest priced electricity available which in Washington is hydro produced. Thus, energy produced by the windmills in the eastern part of the state is not being fully utilized. Just another unintended consequence on the path to greener power.

I’d rather be talking about bio-char or terra prieta if you will. My wood stove allows me to control the air intake. Giving a lower supply of Oxygen is the goal in achieving pyralysis . At the end of the night I add a  stick of wood and reduce the intake. The small black charcoal pieces and ash are added to the compost pile for a week or two then combined with a wheelbarrow of fertile forest soil, some pond scum, a small bucket of clam shells (broken), mycyliated wood chips (local…

Tipping Point Update

I would first like to thank those whose tireless efforts have brought about the awareness of climate change to an ever broadening audience. Along with the 2012 weather records, an up tick in public interest has become almost palatable. I therefore have little time to concern myself with the deniers of this subject. Although amazed by their ability and energy wasted clinging onto such ever-evolving false narratives, their ignorance seems to proclaim all species…

I've recently accepted your friend request while having no idea who or whom you may be?

I've tried to message you and this won't happen; so am now wondering how I may de-friend you?

I'm irked to say the least; at what seems cyber-prejudice and community abuses.

Hi JC!  See 'Healing Toxic Soils” - ie aminopyralid contamination discussion on Earth Gardens group -http://transitionwhatcom.ning.com/group/organic/forum/topics/healing-toxic-soils-waters

Most of compliled info from myself, Walter, you, & others is on this EarthGarden group discussion....But not the most recent stuff you have posted in your Aminopyralid group that you may end.   Take a look at EarthGarden discussion, and compare to your Aminopyralid group, to see where I have some info gaps....Or maybe consider writing a blog and preserving your group info there.

Two other discussion links you might review to see if we have some gaps in info & resources are at:

Nourishment...& Fertilizers”- http://transitionwhatcom.ning.com/group/organic/forum/topics/nourishment-soil-amendments

I hope you'll consider attending the October permaculture convergence in park near Port Townsend! http://transitionwhatcom.ning.com/events/northwest-permaculture-convergence Its a great time to come together as a human tribe for camping & sharing info & resoureces.  Thanks for all you do!

Thanks J.C. for your welcome - my first.  I have a lot to learn about mushrooms but am aware of some of their amazing qualities.  I have a general science background with no particular specialty interests.  That means I am interested in everything as they form elements of the web of life.  But as I look at the forest I stop by and size up the trees in their individual characteristics and varieties mindful of the ecological interconnections.  That applies to mushrooms and people too.  Hope to get to know you better in the future.

Hi JC!  I attended two of the Ag Extension talks on Herbicidal Contamination of Dairy 'Compost'. I haven't written up yet what I learned. If you want to connect on the phone sometime, Friday would be good. I'd like to hear what you learned.

Hi J.C.,
I talked with Heather and she is not able to come visit your place this Saturday like we had talked about on the phone. Are you free to have visitors next Wed, Thurs, or Fri instead (Feb 2, 3, or 4)? We were thinking we would include a few people (Janaki and one other) who wanted to come to your place before but didn't make it.... only if that is OK with you.
Thank you! --Chris Wolf

Hi JC ! Good to see you again down in the lower valley at Inspiration this Sat!

I'm still sorting seeds for the Sunday Seed-Swap.  After that I'd enjoy carpooling with a few folks up to your fungi forest sanctuary & lab to help out!   Lets get in touch after the swap!
