I am thinking about getting three turkeys but I want to put them in with my meat birds. So I want them to be a few weeks younger. Anyone have any extra turkey chicks (or about to order some) born around now or a little earlier?

Sorry to hear about your hen, :( It is hard with predator and prey in same household!!

Sorry to hear about your hen, Kate. It is probably a rare scenario that we can really trust dogs with our hens ... the problem with having a predator and prey share the same yard. Hopefully Lucille will get used to a time-share situation.

Lost one of my girls today- our X@$%*! husky. I have to keep them in the pen from now on unless Lucille is tied up. Bummer! We did bury her though, and had a nice chicken funeral.

Oops, I forgot to say, the chicks are Buff Orpingtons. I wanted to get a heavy dual-purpose bird rather than those bred just for fast, furious, meat production.

I am getting 20 male chicks in the mail tomorrow..I only wanted 12 but there was a minimum dollar amount for the order. So I will have 8 (if all survive transport and the first few days) extras if anyone is looking to raise a few meet birds. I'll probably ask about $3 per chick but it will depend on how many days I end up tending them before pick up. Let me know if interested!!

my hens will eat small and medium...and a friend just told me she cuts her big ones up and her hens eat the pieces, yum yum.....

My hens turned up their beaks at slugs until I got the ducks and they saw the ducks diving for the slugs I threw into their yard. Now they eat slugs - although only the small ones. Ducks are still your best slug protection. They actively search them out.

As far as finding pullets this time of year, this kind of list and Craigslist are good bets, as people thin down from all the chicks they got in the spring. Does Hohl's have any left? If they do, they'll be a good price. Good luck, Megan!

hi Megan, I'm no chicken expert but I don't think they eat slugs. I think you need ducks for that. Anyone else have some feedback?

Anyone know where to get 6 pullets in Bellingham? We want them for eggs and slug patrol. Eventually we want a bigger, varied flock and will probably order chicks next year, but for now we'd like to start off quick. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
