Our annual winter 2012 (January Community Seed-Swap) is
in planning stages..  We are looking for a new place to hold the
swap, possibly either the Foundry or Majestic.  More info to come as
date & place secured.   (We expect that Terra Organica may hold their follow-up seed-swap in February again.)

Our annual Autumn farmer seed-swap/barter fair will take this year off, until a larger farm-site is identified.   Thus no autumn fair/swap November 5th this  year. ;-(     (Lynden's River Haven's barn is under construction  & not available this year.  Past years we gathered at Inspiration Farm, but our numbers have outgrown Brian's farm).

The Okanagan Barter Fair is held in October; we encourage others to help co-create a small local community barter fair/swap.    You can let either Heather K,  Farmer Brian at Inspiration Farm, or the farmers at River Haven know if you'd like to join a planning team – or create your own & invite us to help ya out!

Whatcom Food Network Forum 2” is this upcoming Monday, October 17 in Bellingham. For those planning on attending, remember to register online, and fill out their questionaire- http://whatcom.wsu.edu/ag/foodnetwork/calendar.html

This is a truly collaborative event! I hope more farmers can attend this fall forum!

*  Share and add to planning committee efforts around Network goals—imagine outcomes, develop action plans, strategies and partners, and identify leadership.

*  Spark mutual inspiration--continue collaborating and integrating our work to take action toward a more equitable, sustainable and healthy food system.

Cooking with Chinese herbs and building immunity

In classical Chinese medical texts, principles were described for using special food herbs and dietetic remedies for regeneration. Through understanding diet and the energetic nature of foods we are able to play a more active and responsible role in our therapy of preventing illness and promoting vitality. Traditional principles of food therapy will be presented including recipes, materia medica and incorporating Chinese herbs into the Western kitchen.

First annual gathering for NW Mushroom-Fungi-Mycoremediation Workers located in our bioregion this weekend! September 2-5!

"Radical Mycology Convergence" 2011 At Finny Farm in Concrete – Skagit River Watershed.

Email for RSVP & Directions email radmycology@gmail.com

More info on TW events page- http://transitionwhatcom.ning.com/xn/detail/2723460%3AEvent%3A64496

What: A free, volunteer-run gathering of mycologists, hobbyists, and Earth healers coming together to share skills and information related to  the benefits of the fungal kingdom in terms of remediative properties as well as human uses. This weekend-long event will culminate in a remediation project to put theory to practice and will also be a unique chance to build community with like-minded mycophiles (aka mushroom lovers) from around North America.

Why: Because these skills need to get shared! We want to make this information accessible and tangible for as many people as possible without making it overly-heady or technical. Our hope is to see mycological work someday become as common as gardening (well, sort of)!

Who: Anyone interested in these skills is invited to come. Space is limited to just a few hundred people this first year so be sure to RSVP by emailing us at radmycology@gmail.com!

Transition Whatcom has a project on the Home and Landscape tour this weekend (June 25/26 from 10AM to 5PM)- the project we helped with across from the Farmers Market for the 350 Home and Garden Challenge. This is a high visibility location so it is a great opportunity for us to spread the word about TW! If YOU want to volunteer to be at the site, for any subset of the tour time, to answer questions about Transition Whatcom please contact Warren Miller at warren@wavefrontmarketing.com. Thanx!
