Good News! My 6 Faverolles are in their new coop and chicken run. They love it. Lots of room to run and fly about. It was a challenge getting the run together but it looks nice. We also taped the citys ordinance on chickens to the side of the coop just incase we have some neighbor troubles. The chickens are happy and so am I.

So another trying chicken week. Another dog attack, no deaths this time just one very mauled chicken receiving intensive in home care. I have an amazing flyer from the vet on the use of honey for wounds. I would love to post it but do not know how to post files or pics on this site. If someone can help, that would be great. Also you may email me and I can send you the flyer. It's really useful and my chicken is now gooped up with raw honey for healing and for antibacterial support!! Cheers, Jamie

Bummer! That is section of the neighborhood with a lot of college kids (I lived there when I was in college) and being as it was the first weekend back at school after spring break I imagine there were quite a number of people wandering looking for "fun."

Hello, I have a sad tale to tell. The cardboard flock of chickens has disappeared. These chickens were a good advertisement for the Great Unleashing, now they appear to have wandered away from their yard at 21st and Harris. If you see them wandering around your neighborhood please give a cockadoodle doo my way. Thanks, Juliet

I currently am using a chicken tractor that was given to me. It has served well for 3 months and is falling apart at the seems. It has had tons of patch work done and just needs to retire. i have a large portion of my backyard I think would work well for a chicken run and wondered if there is anyone out there who would be able to come over to my place and help me think through what might be the necessary supplies and caveats for doing it this way. This is my first chicken experience and I have 4, 8 month old hens. Much Gratitude for this group of people to connect with....Jamie

Ouch...so sorry to hear about your girls. I swear by our little electric line around the coop. Can't tell you the number of times I've heard dogs and critters get zapped, and it only takes once. My dogs all had to get zapped once (Ok, the Jack russel took 2 times), and they won't get within 15 feet of the coop now. We even let the chickens out in the open yard and the dogs refused to get close to them!

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Keeping the chickens penned is one thing, but a dog with chicken blood lust can be quite determined, so from personal experience I advise penning the dog as well. I live on five acres and now have "suburban" dogs on a leash, tie-out or in the house or kennel. Good luck with your new batch. I'm not familiar with the breed, so post some info as they grow.
