I prefer to meet on a Sat noonish and carpool from Ferndale, both the14th & the 21st work for me. I do not want my flock on the tour this time around. Thanks for coordinating. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

I want to come play whenever & wherever folks gather to share & laugh together!
I received a lot of chicken messages in my email the last few days. Although I can be miss seeing things that are right under my elder visionary eyes, I did not see an email address listed to reply to, so I will post here.
When I hit the 'reply' button on my email site, it reads - "do-not-reply@transitionwhatcom.ning.com".
Their are 16 of us to date in the Chicken Club - Flock and we don't all have each others emails.
I don't know what to suggest, but I extend gratitude to Alicia, Alys, Brian, Kate, & all who are gifted with organizing both people & computers, for helping out some of your funcky chicken gardening neighbors get it together in person.
Afternoons & evenings better for me too.

Ning-site tip: On this ning.com system, phone numbers & emails can be shared privately through clicking on a friends page, and then clicking 'Send a Message'. Or a comment viewable by the whole network can be posted under anyones comment page.
It might Not be possible to send a person a message on this ning.site who is not listed as your ning-site-friend....gobble gobble hope my words all came out right....

Lets keep up the dialogue and see what emerges and how Alicia & others can coordinate a plan. (I'm excited to see the Ferndale flock!)

I am still willing to act as a coordinator and map addresses, times and carpooling but I will need folks to get me the information I asked for in the email I sent out a few days ago: Do you want to attend; do you want to have your coop on the tour, which Saturdays are you available over the next three weekends, and if you want your coop on the tour what is your address (with cross street). If you all want me to coordinate this, then send a message to my TW inbox with the information and I'll do so. If you'd rather let it unfold organically, that's fine with me too. Just let me know.

12: 30 would be a great time to start 14th or 21st would work for me. I live in the birchwood area.

My suggestion for the chicken tour would be to do it in the afternoon. I don't know about others, but I have chores that have to be done in the mornings, and would not be available until around 11:30 or 12. So, starting around 12:30 or 1 would work best for me. That way my whole afternoon is free to do the tour. And, I like Heathers Idea of coordinating times and places.

Alys & All - Count me in on gathering to visit the flock gardens & coops!
I'm not able to keep up with all the current clucking & planning on the site, but are all 16 current members of The Chicken Club invited or just a few?

Since we all come from different parts of the county, it would be helpful to have an address & time set for each site so we can each make a transpo plan. Some of us may be traveling from a rural location outside of urban B'ham and could go direct to a county site versus coming all the way back into town. (It's possible to create a seperate disucssion thread on this site for planning & events or invites if that is helpful.)

Saturdays from 9-12am on Nov 14th & 21st are the last two volunteer work days for streamside restoration work with the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association. Possibly we might not want to compete with those dates since restoration work is so healing for our earth.

Re the tour- sounds awesome! I am available any of those days, but Saturdays work better for me.

As for the electric fence, it may touch some grass or the wood or a rock and it seems to still work fine. (I know, I touch it by mistake on occasion). My guess is that if its wet and touching too much stuff, it will make the batteries go down quicker, but it seems to still do the job.

I would love to participate in the migration of a small flock touring different coops! Sounds like a great way to gain some knowledge, ideas and fun!

Hi All, I like Alicia'a idea of keeping a chicken house tour small, just the group involved here in the Flock, at least for starters. There will always be newcomers and more and more people interested in having chickens or the like, and then it can grow in what ever way happens at that time - by then we will all be "experts" ; - ) and if we like can teach others as time passes. But, for starters I would like to keep the tour with just the folks involved here. And, I must add that I and at least one other person are in the Ferndale area, and as Alicia said, there are those of use, of which I am one, not young enough to be toodling all over the county on a bike, so a car tour would be the only way that I could do it.

Also, I am curious how you are managing to keep all the vegetation away from your electric fencing, as my understanding is that if anything touches it, a growing something, it grounds it out. Is that not the case? I have not tried electric fencing for over 30 years due to that as an issue. And, where I have my girls I could not put it outside the fence line, as that is the neighbors yard, so, it would come back to how does one do it without frying your chickens..........has anyone ever tried putting electric wire along the top of the fence line, but not directly connected to the actual fencing? If that were possible, it would keep the critters, like the coons, from crawling over the top of the fencing.
