A group for people who want to raise a few chickens, who have chickens or other poultry, are thinking about getting some poultry, or who just plain love chickens and ducks and geese!
The four hens did die of Hemlock, a friend who gave the neighbor chickens her weeds.
I think where the conjecture lies is that perhaps that's what happened to your lovely Hen, Alisha.
Also, Christy Nieto said to me last night that she thinks California poppy is poisonous. I haven't looked that one up yet.

Cari asked me to post for her - for some reason her computer balks at posting here. She says: "For whatever reason I'm still not able to make comments on the chicken group transition web site. I was wondering if you might be willing to post a note to see if folks are interested in doing another chicken coop tour this summer. It would be fun to see what folks have done to house their hens and seperate new chicks from old hens, etc." It would be fun - the last one was both fun and informative.
PS -Jamie told me about four other hens dying with beak-frothing and the conjecture is that they got into hemlock vine. A warning bell for us all...
Sounds good so far - (garlic cider vin), I would contact The Kulshan Vet Hospital - you could email them your issue and request some input. from Dr. West and Dr. Eggenberger in Lynden, they served me well with Buffy the Buff Orp that got attacked and actually offered me something besides medication. Also, they just had a very useful chicken class at the NW fair grounds this week.
btw I sent you the honey attachment. I'm sorry to hear that your hen died, it must be a bit disconcerting and most sad......let me know if I can be of help at all. :) Jamie
PS - Have put cider vinegar in the water (which I do periodically anyway) and giving them all a mash of raw garlic and oatmeal. Any other antibiotic herbs anyone knows about?
One of my middle-aged (3-4 yrs) hens just died of something I haven't seen before. She had been walking slower than the others for a few days but I was too busy to attach any significance to it. Then yesterday I saw her staggering down the path with froth alternating with clear fluid coming out of her beak. It was as if her lungs were full of fluid. I picked her up to put her in an isolation cage and try to help but she died before I even got the cage down. Is this familiar to anyone? I've scrubbed everything down with bleach and everyone else is looking fine but I'm wondering whether I should give them all an antibiotic, just in case. Any experience or ideas?
