yes i say we keep showing movies as long as we have electricity.......i know the end of surburbia was a turning point for me in 2004 and if we just keep getting a few more people each time ...... and i think it also helps the choir...great community and learning!

Sorry fellow Ferndaler's ~
I really did plan to come to the movie night, but in the last 3 weeks so many things have gone on that I needed some catchup time around Fern Hollow. Our boiler heat went out Saturday, and we could not get Marr's boiler tech there to fix it until yesterday as he was out sick! (Great timing with all of this and the deep freeze we are having!) We made it with some space heaters, no frozen people or pipes!
Anyway I hope you all enjoyed, sound like it was a nice time. I also have a bunch of movies (DVD) for showing, Peggy you have the list I sent you.

Our film night was interesting and tasty. On the coldest, windiest night so far 13 people and one dog braved the elements. The dog Lucy was eager and wagging all evening. Peggy, Alys, David and I represented Transition Ferndale and were delighted to meet the others who came from Bellingham, Blaine, and some from Ferndale. Thank you, Peggy, for organizing and getting the word out.

As a group, we thought this film about Cuba's response to their own peak oil should get wider showing in the community. I will contact Kate Clark and suggest it for the Transition Whatcom film festival coming in Jan or Feb.

Stay warm and keep in touch...Judith

we had a very interesting group and some great food...it was small but i think very nice. a nice woman from Cascade Natural Gas's Conservation Incentive Program showed up and left with 3 movies on loan. i enjoyed. I am really hoping to screen it again in the near future and invite countywide officials and have some discussion hopefully. i have 3 other good peak oil films we could show also.
thanks to all who participated...peggy

Hello fellow Ferndale ers,
Sorry I missed last night's film and gathering. I had a friend in need, and of course that takes priority. I hope it was a good turn out and discussion

Hi, all, Here's big thank you to Terese for hosting our potluck last weekend. We all know it takes a big effort to get ready for a big crowd. Thanks to all the people who came bearing yummy food too.

So check out the discussion I started (right here on Transition Ferndale...above). It's about making personal energy descent action plans. You will see me jumping for joy in front of our plan which hangs on the wall. David and I are ready to talk about our plan to anyone who is interested. Or discuss it here.

See you all on Monday night at the film event. Let's roll! Judith

A big thank you to Peggy for setting up our first movie night. You'll see that it is on a Monday, the only night that week that WECU was available. If we start to schedule our events farther out we will have more choice of nights and locations.

So if you want to sponsor an event, suggest it here or check it out with a few folks and go for it. I don't think we should totally avoid the days around the holidays. I'm already hearing that some of us don't have much family in the area, including us.

Especially if you can offer your home or other location, let us know.

I'm excited to see you all at the potluck at Terese's. Judith

I had a great time Sunday, seeing all of you and meeting some for the first time. I took some notes and will post them as a new discussion on this group. This is a good place to say what you want Transition Ferndale to be or do.

Meanwhile, hurry on over to the events page and RSVP for Terese’s potluck so she will know how many are coming. As was mentioned at our Sundy gathering, let’s get in the habit of taking our own plates, utensils, cups, etc. to potlucks and packing out our own garbage. And don’t forget food for the food bank.

Thanksgiving is coming up and I have many things to be thankful for. We'll be celebrating with my mom in her Bellingham assisted living and then off to my daughter's in-laws in Burlington. We don't have much family in this area and hope that you will be come our extended family here where we have chosen to live. Bye now, Judith
