Hi Kara,
Hope to meet you soon. Come on over for a Stitch n' Bitch this Tuesday if that's your fancy.

Hi there,
So we're inviting any menders, knitters, rug braiders, embroiderers, etc., to come and work on projects at my house, 3229 Pinewood, from 7 to 9 on Tuesday night. Feel free to come for any or all of the time. Good conversation and tea will be had. We'll do this every other week.

Thanks, Christy - I'll check it out. It's an incredible herb. BTW, Henry seems very happy with his new flock. (and they seem to like him, too!)

Juliet, I like your idea - I knit and always have some hand-mending to do. It might be a space for us to learn skills from each other. I could use some darning tips. If someone wants to learn to knit, I can teach the basics and if you need a project, the cancer treatment center on Cordata always needs lap-blankets for their patients - a good beginners project. It's also not a bad idea to learn the basics of hand-mending. Tuesdays are good for me, Juliet.

I've got a couple of rug braiding projects and some darning I'd like to finish up over the next 2 months and am wondering if there are any neighbors who'd like to have a weeknight where we get together and work on handwork? I am suggesting Tuesday nights, and am also available other weeknights except Thursday just in case this sounds good to others.

I'm also wondering if anyone is considering running for the BNA board? Andrew?

Alicia, I just noticed last night that Johnny's Seeds sells Holy Basil. And, Cascade Cuts may sell starts but that wouldn't be for a while...

Anyone have info on growing Holy Basil up here? Got a lead on seeds or starts?

Alicia, I'm always up for coffee. I am in Chicago next week but should be available the week after. Let me know if that works for you...

Here's the email from Sharon Swanson (via Rebbeca S. of the BNA):

An informational meeting is scheduled for a possible community garden project located at the Faith Lutheran Church (2750 McLeod Rd). On Sunday, Nov. 29th, Becky Curtiss and another person from Community First will lead the discussion to be held at the Faith Luther Church after the 10am service. There will be a light lunch and the meeting will start at noon. For further information contact Sharon Swanson,

I just received an email from Paster Sharon at Faith Lutheran Church. She says:
"The garden site is right here at Faith - we have a lot of land, and are thinking about the large lawn area along the parking lot. We would have to make raised beds because the soil is pretty poor, and that would also be better if any of our seniors want to have garden plots."
Sounds promising! Seems there are a lot of folks thinking about gardening in Birchwood. I like it!

Cameron and Alicia,

I'd love to be a part of that ABCD project, too.

Cameron, It was nice to meet you at the BNA meeting last week and I have been send out the word about the Birchwood Toy Store. I also received the email about the Faith Lutheran Church meeting. Do you know where their proposed Community Garden site is located? Is it on their property, or on another site in Birchwood, do you know?
