Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition?
I wear several hats, all of which are sustainability-related, but the one most relevant to Transition Whatcom is my work with Carbon Neutral Bellingham. This nonprofit organization is working to accelerate Bellingham's transition to a net zero carbon city.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
Over the millennia, human civilization has become an ever greater burden on our biosphere. I'm interested in understanding what an urban sustainable lifestyle is and how to make it the norm for our world.
Do you have particular interests, skills, talents or resources you would like to bring to Transition Whatcom?
I have expertise in sustainable solutions for the urban built environment and I work closely with local and state government.
In what neighborhood or part of the county do you reside?
Happy Valley

Please note that you do not have to answer all of the above questions in order to join, and you can always come back later to edit your profile. If it's all too many questions for now, please provide a short answer below on why you'd like to join this site (or a summary of the above, if answered).
I enjoy connecting with other sustainable-minded people in and around Bellingham

Hi Rhys,

I am glad you took an interest in me because it is mutual.  Nice to see you interested in experimenting with sustainable community living options especially with the ecological (or dialectic) concept of permaculture as a model.  Looking forward to working with you in research / planning / implementing  potentially viable projects in TW ecosociosphere.

Hi Rhys,

Heather K referred me to you, as we were talking about a film series I'm coordinating for the Center for Local Self-Reliance (www.caretakershouse.org). We're hosting a series of 4 films for this winter/spring at RE-Sources learning center.  I'm looking for people who have some expertise on the topics of the films to be available for questions at these films; specifically on soils (for the movie "Dirt"), water (for the movie "Blue Gold"), or an update on Cuba (for "Power of Community).  She said you might be able to identify people if you, yourself, would not be able to attend.  So, thanks in advance in you can help!  Jean

Hi Rhys,
Would you like to come to a website infrastructure meeting? We have a Doodle poll set up - http://doodle.com/5cn56vcvg2vhrxpw If you could mark the times and dates you're available that'd be great. We'll talk about software upgrade, limitations of current software, how to make decisions, who's doing what in terms of admin. Thanks, Juliet

Hey Rhys, it was great meeting you this weekend (I was the one who brought his own chair, ha ha). I wish you luck with your work with Cascadia NeoTribalism. Be sure to update the board here with any interesting events which are coming up (and Perm 101 & 201 classes in October).

Hi Rhys! Great to read of the two Permaculture events being held at the Outback Farm! Will these events be held regardless of how many folks sign up?
The last time I referred some of my Earthcare Garden Design clients to this class series, the class was cancelled just a few days before the weekend.
Once this September class is a sure thing, let me know, as I have some folks I would like to refer, and I can help promote once its a sure go.
( If I'm in town I'd be willing to help out also. )
I attended the Outback event at the stage but came late.
It would be great if Western would count this class towards students credits! Someday Western may actually offer Permaculture Design & Application classes that include a Permaculture Design Certification (PDC).

Oh, I forgot: you mentioned NVC as a skill you might want to have workshops on--you're aware that Alan Seid teaches an intro to NVC the first Saturday of every month at Explorations Academy (same building as Sustainable Connections)? Sliding scale and well worth it, I took it earlier this month. David and Angela MacLeod handle registration, I believe. As far as piggybacking on what other groups are already doing, that one's a slam dunk. Cheers, Laura jean

Rhys - Great to see you again at planning time for Great Unleashing! We would welcome you & Oasis friends to come out to the Heartsong Garden Sanctuary again and enjoy a lakeside fire & potluck. We're still planting more trees & shrubs!

Hi Rhys,
If you know anyone who is currently looking for a semi-communal living situation, my partner and I have the upstairs of our house available for rent (bedroom plus living space) and we are friendly and into sustainable community living. We have lots of garden space and knowledge to share if someone is into that. They can email me at chrisandbella at yahoo dot com or call me at 961 9028. Thanks!
