Attaboy Travis.

Good work on getting us renamed.

Thank you for your post, Heather, I second your request. I am intensely busy right now, and regular meetings times are pretty much essential for me to be able to attend, as I have to organize in advance to have time free. I will be unable to make any meetings in May, but having June and July dates now would make attendance then more possible for me.

Would someone be able to post the May, June, July dates of the next EDAP to ARC Meetings?

Does anyone recall if we made a decision on meeting the 1st & 3rd Mondays or the 2nd & 4th Mondays, or once a month?

The meeting dates have seemed random & difficult to plan ahead for.

Kyler, thanks for posting the meetings notes & thanks to Travis family for hosting again!

I was not able to attend this Monday receiving notice a few days before.

Thanks, Tris, for those ideas.

The minutes of the last meeting might also generate some thoughts/discussion.  They are posted on the blog:  http://transitionwhatcom.ning.com/profiles/blogs/edap-planning-grou...

As there's not been too much going on here, l'll toss out a few ideas to stimulate discussion.

1.  We should decide what the EDAP Workgroup’s role should be in producing an EDAP.  What do we do up front to get the project launched?

For up front work, I propose the following:

Establish a scope for the project.  Are we interested in local (County) transition only, or would we accept material advocating  more sweeping changes to state, federal, or global systems?  I suggest we stay local.

Propose an overall concept for the document.  I suggest : The  <document name here>  is an information resource of practical advice on preparing for a low energy future, and a celebration of preparations already under way in Whatcom County.

Establish a process which allows us to expand our concept of the Guidebook in response to creative suggestions and contributions from the community.  But help people focus on essential content. We must minimize the likelihood  of people investing great effort in work that is ultimately not that useful – when they might have been just as happy doing something that was.

Decide on a working title for the document other than EDAP.  I propose “Transition Voyager’s Guidebook for Whatcom County”.  Or among friends, just “Guidebook”

Rename our workgroup to suggests our role in creating the Guidebook   I propose Guidebook Initiating Group (GIG), implying that we will reconstitute ourselves somehow to execute whatever ongoing responsibilities are identified.

Propose some minimum assortment of subjects that we think are  essential for the Guidebook.  The final determination of  contents can be left open for discussion.  Additions would generally be accepted at the request of  whoever wants to contribute the additional material.  Deletions would also be considered .

Establish an environment (toolset) to use for creating the document.  I propose a Wiki, with an optional Google Docs account for the convenience of those who prefer it for initial drafts. All work would eventually be moved to the Wiki to facilitate public comment and discussion.

Publicize a simple process for people to follow when submitting content.

Identify and/or recruit champions for each major subject area and agree on how they will proceed.

Identify and provide access to sample material done by others that reflects our aspirations for the Guidebook.

2.  I wrote to Transition US for guidance on EDAP development procedures.  None was available but they are looking for information for us.  Most likely, we’ll get to pioneer the process on this continent without guidance.  They did express a preference for EDAPs that contain material that is “actionable”, thus lending support for our concept of blending motivational, emotional content (stories) with persuasive, factual content (analysis & findings).
