Profile Information

In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I have been interested in environmental issues most of my life. My Dad did his thesis on water resources when I was 9 years old and there was a lot of family discussion about such subjects. Since then I've done what I could to be a good steward of the earth.

The other aspect of Transition that appeals to me very much is the non-partisan, inclusive, stance and the exhortation to connect with your neighbors to build resilience in your own neighborhood.
In what neighborhood or part of the county do you reside?
Happy Valley
Where did you hear about Transition Whatcom and how did you find our community network website?
It was mentioned in the Folk School catalog and also a friend invited me to join in late 2012.
Please note that you do not have to answer all of the above questions in order to join, and you can always come back later to edit your profile. If it's all too many questions for now, please provide a short answer below on why you'd like to join this site (or a summary of the above, if answered).
I am inactive now and just want to keep my ability to access the site. Thanks

Wise Man, just learned of him

Sounds like a rebel to me - I like rebels.

"There is now a single issue before us: survival.
Not merely physical survival, but survival in a world of fulfillment, survival in a living world, where the violets bloom in the springtime, where the stars shine down in all their mystery, survival in a world of meaning."

Compost Islands for New York

Posted on March 14, 2014 at 11:13am 0 Comments

An architectural designer has proposed a series of compost islands for New York City. Not only does it look nice but, of course, solves a huge problem for New York. Good for them! I like all the good, creative energy going into sustainable practices all over the globe. I don't know if this would work - but it is my 'feel good and hopeful' news for the day.…

Catechism for a Witch’s Child

When they ask to see your gods

your book of prayers

show them lines

drawn delicately with veins

on the underside of a bird’s wing

tell them you believe

in giant sycamores mottled

and stark against a winter sky

and in nights so frozen

stars crack open spilling

streams of molten ice to earth

and tell them how you drink

a holy wine of honeysuckle

on a…

Hi Margo!  Welcome to Transition Whatcom, and also being part of our 2nd annual Skillshare Faire!  I look forward to meeting you, although I may miss our next meeting.  Your neighborhood is just across the lake from ours, as we are in Agate Bay & Squalicum Valley/Stewart Mountain watersheds.  You would be welcome to meet me and visit our pollinator garden sanctuary - ie. a micro edible-forest 'beyond organic' co-creative ecological-chaos rewilding garden!  You are also invited to join our network of TW Earth Gardens group at http://transitionwhatcom.ning.com/group/organic
