How are you currently involved in the Transition?: growing a garden, living in a yurt.

In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?: Fairhaven College grad, lifelong environmentalist, I enjoy connecting with Nature and would like to keep some of it around. I am becoming increasingly interested in growing food for myself and my community.

Do you have particular interests, skills, talents or resources you would like to bring to Transition Whatcom?: Writing for and about Nature, gardening as influenced by Masanobu Fukuoka and permaculture ideals. Medicinal plants, trail building.

In what neighborhood or part of the county do you reside?: in a yurt on the Mt. Baker Hwy. / in a house in Fairhaven

Just finished reading “The Unsettling of America, Culture and Agriculture” by Wendell Berry. His writings make so much sense as to make a complete mockery of what commercial agriculture has become in our modern age. I doubt anyone has done such a thorough job of explaining just how deep the erosive fissures run in industrial agriculture, or “agri-business” as it is known in his book. I'm going out to the farm today to check on the beans. But last year they took forever to come up (it was dry) and I planted them late, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'll give you a report. Are you moved yet? I was trying to coordinate getting you and Heather out to my fields but it's too chaotic to coordinate with others...maybe when my crazy census work schedule is over in a few weeks.

(but no buckwheat seemed to have sprouted & I thought I'd planted some). I'm sensing some of my buckwheat seeds are not very viable.....I"m understanding now how important the actual mix of seeds is in the seed balls... we really needed to have somthing that not only could act as nurse crops, but also grow fat root in the soil....next seedball fling for sure will scrounge some radish or tyfon to add to mix...I've not yet done my second toss....Let me know about the hulu hoe, or if you need a loan of the broad fork in the future.
