I'm starting the Bellingham Gleaning Network, focusing on this season's gleaning and preserving.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
How could I not?
Do you have particular interests, skills, talents or resources you would like to bring to Transition Whatcom?
I am interested in networking seasonal harvest. For example, during apple season, I want to get a group together harvesting and making everything apple: cidar, sauce, crisp, etc. Some of these projects require equipment, such as an apple grinder, which not everyone is a community needs to own personally. My goal is to network and organize such projects, so interested people can take advantage of what nature provides freely.
In what neighborhood or part of the county do you reside?
downtown Bellingham
Where did you hear about Transition Whatcom and how did you find our community network website?

Hi Christie, The cider press belongs to Merry Teesdale. It is back at her place now. Call her directly if you still have a need for it. Best wishes......Sandie
Hi Christie,
Please forgive me for not responding sooner, all of my free time is outside these days. You are welcome to come get perennials out of my garden any weekend and almost any evening during the week. It was so good to meet you, glad you joined us!
What's this I see about a gleaning group? I will check it out and join.
Hi Christie, good fruit gleaner letter. Maybe mention a line about how gleaners help preserve the health of the fruit tree by having any fruit removed from the ground before it attracts insects & disease....Gleaner improve & help maintain the health of our trees!
I told you my pictures are not publishable without royalties. It will cost you 25 cents every time it flashes up on your page. Thats about $4 minute, $240 per hour. Mail me a check.
Sorry my phone access is not good lately - since I've moved into the yurt and my phone is across town. I just got your message 2 days later. This weather sucks and I'm not gardening much in it. I know we need rain but I miss the sun.
Hi Christie! Good to hear about your first gleaning meeting! I won't be able to attend, I have an 'animal' composting group I'm attending! I hope see you at one of the upcoming events, maybe seed-ball fling or the 'Walking Gaia's Gardens'.
Hi! What do you think about sometime posting under ol Harvest group a Discussion on local gleaning organizations & their mission & info...like the Small Potatoes group...I can think of some reasons why some 'land-owners' will go through them to find gleaners, and maybe some of our efforts might help them out...just some thoughts that might help share info to new folks coming on to the group...I appreciate you taking the lead & your birthing vision.
