I am a health care practioner who is interested in the impact of post peak oil health care needs. I spend most of my time teaching my patients to be self-aware, self-reliant and and self-resiliant. I am a naturopathic physician (in Mount Vernon) with a background as a R.N., mental health social worker and massage practitioner. I am very interested in including healthcare the transition discussion.

Will there be a next meeting?

This is the link to the Ham Radio Operator Transition US group, Cindy. I think Victor will appreciate it.

HI, I'm still planning to come. I fall into the category of "facilitators of our own good health". I think being strong, fit and healthy is perhaps the most important aspect of being resilient. Along with that, ramping up our food gardening so a good very local food supply is available year-round.

Here is a link to a Michael Pollan article - first paragraph is included below:

Food Rules: A Completely Different Way To Fix The Health Care Crisis
by Michael Pollan
The idea for this book came from a doctor--a couple of them, as a matter of fact. They had read my last book, "In Defense of Food", which ended with a handful of tips for eating well: simple ways to navigate the treacherous landscape of modern food and the often-confusing science of nutrition. "What I would love is a pamphlet I could hand to my patients with some rules for eating wisely," they would say. "I don't have time for the big nutrition lecture and, anyway, they really don't need to know what an antioxidant is in order to eat wisely." Another doctor, a transplant cardiologist, wrote to say "you can't imagine what I see on the insides of people these days wrecked by eating food products instead of food." So rather than leaving his heart patients with yet another prescription or lecture on cholesterol, he gives them a simple recipe for roasting a chicken, and getting three wholesome meals out of it -- a very different way of thinking about health.

Hi Everyone
I am closing the discussion titled "I want the knowledge that might be in an owner's manual for caring for the female body - do you?"

It hasn't been very active I am thinking we could start it up again later...perhaps after starting a more general health care group.

I invited folks to meet and got only one or two replies. This could be because of how I positioned it on the website (live and learn!) but perhaps it is a gift in disguise as an 'oops'.

After much talk with interested people (including several of you!), we would like to still meet this Sunday....the 10th...at 2 pm ....but I want to open it up to a topic that might be described as Post Peak Oil Healthcare. I have a call into the Food Co-op to see if we can meet at the Connections building and will let you all know as soon as possible. I know it is available - I don't know if they will donate the space to us for free.

The agenda - I think we should start with an open space type of discussion about how healthcare might change. I am attaching some links to some websites that will give us a good start on getting on the same page. The second topic I would like to discuss is how we see ourselves adjusting to these changes - as healthcare professionals and facilitators of our own good health! (This Solstice I had a small 'letting go' ceremony where I let go of a privilege I didn't realize I had - the privilege of not having to take good care of my body! I have always been able to fix or put off healthcare issues - now I believe I need my good health for my own resilience.)

I will put this on the events tab when I get a location nailed down.

These are some of the links I found to be very informative and inspiring:

According to one of the websites, there isn't much going on with peak oil medicine. The profession really doesn't seem to want to talk about it yet. There are a few Transition Towns that are talking but not much action yet. It is clear what the issues are but very little action as to what we might do. So bring your most creative self!

See you on Sunday! My cell # is 319-9092
