We (my husband and I) have semi-retired, moved to a smaller home within walking / biking distance of most places we need to reach, and eliminated the second car. We are getting accustomed to our new community - which is the AWESOME York Neighborhood - and will be working with the parks and gardening groups to enhance green space and local food production.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
There are two ways:
First of all - It seems to me that species extinction is progressing at an alarming rate because of climate disruption, pollution, and the encroachment on natural systems which we have in the past called "progress". I think that if we don't make some dramatic changes in the way we relate to the natural world, the web of life that supports us will dissappear - and all this remarkable beauty that sustains will vanish.
Secondly, it seems to me that our obsession with consumption and wealth is undermining our ability to relate to each other as humans - or to even see each other as humans. So in a sense, the transition to sustainability and community is necessary for our souls even if we were not running out of fossil fuel, overheating the earth, and decimating species.
Do you have particular interests, skills, talents or resources you would like to bring to Transition Whatcom?

Hi Judy, Democracy School coming up in February- Can you post the event info here on Transition Whatcom, or if you want me to post, send me full details.
Thanks for all you do! I am blessed to know you earth spirit Friend!
Hi Judy! So glad you're involved in the Democracy Now group! Thanks for carpooling us all down for the great presentations in Skagit on Martin Luther Day!
The snowdrops have started coming up in my garden this past week!
Hi Judy, Sure, we can talk Permaculture! I am so excited, just this week four people (including you) have contacted me about doing some Permaculture consulting for them.
What is your schedule? I am free Tues morning next week, or anytime Wed or Thurs. If you need a weekend time, my weekends are really packed but I could probably squeeze in a short visit to your place to get started. Just to let you know, because Perrmaculture and garden work is the bulk of my time right now, I appreciate any donations of cash and/or 4th Corner Exchange dollars to help support me in paying my rent, food, and health insurance-- but it is not required. You can message me here or call me at 961 9028. Talk to you soon!
