Hi, Chris.  I just moved to the York district and so far I have been involved with the Roving Garden Parties and they told me about this group.  If it's in hibernation, I would be interesting in being a part of its resurrection...

Hi Chris! I'm here now at York as a visiting rural guest, as many of my favorite folks live here, and I want to be sure we make time in the future for me to come play in your garden!

Nick Hartrich and I are hosting a potluck with a purpose... Friday evening June 11th, 6:30 pm until late, to gather the most energized and forward-thinking people of the York Neighborhood. We will eat, drink, and be merry-- but just as important, we will start tossing around our big ideas (and small ideas) for making the York Neighborhood a super friendly, connected, beautiful, healthy, sustainable, and fun place to live.

Ideas already floating around in the York-sphere include: a community fruit and nut orchard... beautifying our new cross-Lakeway crosswalk with plants and artwork... a tool-share and/or truck-share program for neighbors... a "Free Market" at the park where you can donate old items and get different ones for free... work parties to help out elderly/disabled neighbors... What other ideas do you have? This will be a great brainstorm, and will be the kick-of of some very cool projects!

We will gather at Nick's house at 6:30-- 1118 Franklin St-- bring some kind of potluck dish or drink to share. We may travel from there to one or two other homes, so let us know if you are dying to help host! Also, feel free to forward this email to any other Yorkies who you know should be here.

See you on the 11th! I'm excited to see what we come up with!

We had a great and productive Transition York meeting tonight (1/27/10). We decided that from now until mid-April we will offer a series of garden workshops and work parties to help neighborhood residents set up food gardens at their own homes... and also a series of films to continue educating ourselves about important issues. Chris is the "Garden Education Committee" and Francis is the "Film Series Committee." Jason has an idea about community gatherings at Franklin Park (once the weather gets warmer) that may include music, art, food, and fun. If you want to help with these projects, please contact us!

There was no one at this meeting who is working on the Community Garden project, so we didn't talk about that. If people are still interested in creating a community garden, we think it's a great idea and we totally support you! We know a few people who have started community gardens and we can hook you up with them if you need some advice.

Our next potluck will be Tues, Feb 9, at our house at 1131 Humboldt St. 6:00 pm for social and eating time; 6:30 for getting playfully serious!

Hi there, As it looks right now, I won't be able to make it to the potluck tomorrow night. Robin and I both look forward to hearing about what you accomplish though. Happy to help at weekend work parties too!
I've enjoyed your blog Chris. Can't wait to read more! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and thoughts with us.

Hello everyone, and Happy New Year! I am looking forward to having our next potluck sometime in the next few weeks. What weeknight would work best for people in general? Now is your time to vote for what day of the week we should meet.

Also... Barbara Davenport is looking at a piece of land in the 1400 block of James St for a possible community garden. Maybe she and Carrie would like to apply for one of those WSU Extension grants??

Let me know your preference for our every-other-week potlucks to be on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday night and we'll get it scheduled. Peace and love to you all....

HI Everyone,
I am sorry we could not make it to the last potluck meeting - household sickness kept us away. I just wanted to pass on a couple of links that might be of interest. The first is for the Washington State Extension Community Garden Grants: http://whatcom.wsu.edu/ag/gardening/cfg/starting.html
It might be a helpful resource if the group does think establishing a community garden should be one of the goals of transition York.

Also below is a link to an article in the Herald last week about a local wind co-op. I know most of us probably opted for the clean energy choice through Puget Sound Energy, but I just wanted to pas the link along as an alternative source of local wind energy. Perhaps that might be another possible goal of the group - promoting these two options to people in the neighborhood and make an attempt to increase the number of households in the neighborhood that buy into a clean energy option.

Just some thoughts.
Happy Holidays to everyone!

We had a great potluck tonight (12/4/09). Karl, Robin, Carrie, Dietmar, and Ted joined us for the first time. We all talked about the Transition movement and why it is important to each of us.

Where we are at right now in the Transition process is forming our "core group," the 4 to 8 people who want to spearhead the Transition work in the York neighborhood. This means committing to 6 to 12 months of meeting, planning, awareness raising, and eventually holding a Great Unleashing event. There will be lots of opportunities for lots of people to be involved in projects, so it is not necessary to become a member of the "core group" in order to be involved. But if you feel called to put a lot of time and energy into this work over the next year, you may want to join the core group. We want to have our core group self-selected and committed by the end of December; then we will be making a presentation at the York Neighborhood meeting in January.

Our next potluck will be on Friday, Dec 18, 6:00 pm at my house: 1131 Humboldt St. Everyone is welcome!
