- In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
- I am very interested in connecting with like-minded people who wish to share our combined skills, gifts and resources for the benefit of all.
- Do you have particular interests, skills, talents or resources you would like to bring to Transition Whatcom?
- Skills/Talents - I produce natural, all vegetable bath products, I am a woodworker and stringed instrument builder.
Resources - The property that I live on has rich, fertile soil, all day sunshine, a variety of fruit and nut trees (10 apple trees, 3 quinces, 4 filberts, 4 figs, 5 grapes, 3 pears, 4 plums and 1 peach...all heavily producing)...am looking for folks to help w/pruning/care, developing the garden, bringing in chickens (egg layer girls!), etc.
This is a special place and I am in awe of the great abundance that She brings forth here. I look forward to connecting with community and sharing these gifts!

My place is at 5581 Second Avenue in Ferndale. I have a lot of things going on this weekend, but at some point I'd love to have you come over and check it out. that is what I thought when I bought this property - a jewel in the rough. I have done a lot of work to the grounds and house since moving there 5 years ago. It does take a lot fo upkeep. My home is a 1911 Craftsman, and needed a lot of work but the previous owners added a wing and doubled the size of the house. We completely redid the upstairs, but they did the wiring, plumbing, and new windows. So it is pretty efficient. I may make this into Fern Hollow Bed & Breakfast in the future, that was a goal when I bought it. Working full time doesn't allow a lot of time to get this done. But for the price, it was a much better property than anything I could find in Bellingham.
so - lets get together sometime in the future.

Your place sounds like my little urban farm in Ferndale, with 5 avarieties apple trees, 1 producing cherry, 7 blueberry bushes (I call them boulder berreis, these are so lush), the best everbearing rasberries (I think about 10 canes now) 2 hazelnuts, 2 Italian plums, and 1 old pear tree that is a heavy producer but the quality is not the best. Have any ideas about improving fruit quality? Of course I won't spray. Last year composed about 2" material around the base of the pear tree, and put in borage, chives, snowberries, and rasberreis in the understory.
So I may not have a lot of time to help, but ask Larry Williams, he is a landscaper and very good at pruning trees, and will work in exchange for fruit or other barters you may have. Do you have chickens?

I hope to learn more about seed saving and gardening in general. Currently, I am quite busy organizing this doc film festival, but given the time, I would love to help with pruning and yard work.
