Hi, I just learned about Transition Whatcom this week, and am eager to learn more. I live and work in downtown Bellingham, and am interested in transition issues for downtown urban dwellers like myself.

I'd like to enlist some help planning an urban garden beside the housing development on E. Laurel Street. We have a design person and dealing with city and officials for permission needs an organizer with vision.

Re- Economic alternative curranices like FourthCornerExchange.com (FCE) being used by businesses.
I have been a FCE member for a long time and offered my services & experiences as a sustainable sytem-permaculture designer & organic garden mentor in exchange for 'lifedollars ' through FCE online system.
I really appreciate the few businesses, like Terra Organica & Rhythms of Life, that also offer their services & products for life-dollars so that I can use the lifedollars I have earned.
There are so many reasons that are healthy & sustainable for local communities to learn to use more than just the USD's currancy. Even in times of ecomomic financial hardship, we as a community can still offer our services and experience our needs being met.....T
However there is a Big learning curve for our culture to go through to understand how well these alternative currancy systems work, and to understand it is Not the same as bartering.
I also really enjoy experiencing a 'gifting culture' that is similiar to what many indigenous tribes use, and is based on sharing the abundance we receive from the natural earth/sun/moon/stars and through the gifts of the Source-Of-Life or the spiritual Mystery expressed by many names through many different cultures & faiths.
I would like to see someone who has the interest & calling, to initiate some Ecomomic discussions/forums on this whatcom ning site. So far, there are no discussions posted on this transition ning site under the forum 'Economics' catagory.

I won't be able to attend next Sunday's gathering - I am traveling to Everett for the Fourth Corner Exchange monthly member potlock there. However, would love to continue conversations about creating a strong business network downtown using Life Dollars.
