Transition Whatcom

Hey all:

We are in the late planning stages of the SkillShare Faire- we have a great website already up (www.whatcomskillsharefaire.org ) and an email (whatcomskillsharefaire@gmail.com ).  We have been meeting throughout the spring and summer and have some fantastic people lined up to share their resilience-building skills!  We have music being scheduled, and all is going well.

As we get closer to our September 22 event, we are now in the process of gathering names and contact info of volunteers, so if you want to help finish the planning or you just want to volunteer a couple hours at the Faire (collectible t-shirt for ALL volunteers!)  If you want to volunteer send an email to us at whatcomskillsharefaire@gmail.com

We are also continuing to add to our lineup of skillsharers, so if you have a self-reliance skill you would like to demonstrate, either at one of the demo stages or just at your booth throughout the day, go to the website and fill out the SkillShare info and we'll be in touch!  Please pass the word if you know someone else who should be there!

Sponsors! If you or your business can sponsor the SkillShare Faire, we do have costs to cover- please let us know at our email address above.  You will recieve accolades and much gratitude.

Here is an incomplete list of some of our skillshares:

  • Drip irrigation
  • Braided rugs or home made clothes
  • Build a solar food dehydrator
  • Carpentry basics—making a simple garden stool out of recycled wood
  • The "dirt on compost"
  • Local BeeKeepers Assn will do a booth and teach about how to treat bees
  • We'll have a demo on building a rocket stove
  • Grains- how to grow them, harvest them, threshing- the works
  • Build or repair a bicycle
  • Beginner Vegetable Gardening
  • The Trash on Trash (you'd be surprised what you can recycle!)
  • and more...

We look forward to having any of the Transition TWOG or TWIG members volunteering and attending!

What an amazing event! A special thanx to all the organizers and volunteers who made this such a great success.

It was impossible to see everything and difficult to select from so many great topics. What a day...

Look for the batch of photos (on the ning home page) I took of as many of the demos and booths as I could. I wish I could have captured all of them!
