Profile Information

In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I run a seed-to-table educational program on an off-grid solar powered farm. My goal is to help young people connect with where their food and energy come from, and help them think about how our daily consumption choices affect the health of our bodies, our communities, and our planet.
Do you have particular interests, skills, talents or resources you would like to bring to Transition Whatcom?
I'm good at gardening and cooking with kids! I have some experiential knowledge (but not a lot of theoretical knowledge) on living off-grid.
In what neighborhood or part of the county do you reside?
Lummi Island

Hello Laura
I understand you have started a co-op for buying organic chicken feed. I am interested in joining. Please send me details via the chicken club or better yet my personal email ro247@nas.com or phone 380-4211. Thanks Ro

Hi Laura! Great to see you starting a group started for the 'Whatcom County School Gardens" on the TW site. Just a tip in case you decide to join the 'Organic Gardeners...Permaculturist' group...After clicking "Join", to slow down the amount of emails coming in from everyones comments, you can click "Stop Following", and then just enjoy reading comments & discussions when you are online. Let me know if you ever have any questions on learning how to the ning site works for sub-groups. Great news about the kids working at the fairhaven CLSR garden! I was volunteering this Sat am in the larger circle garden!

Laura, Would you be interested in consulting on an edible garden for the housing develpment (kids) downtown? They have a kitchen that could be put to good use!

Hi Laura! Thanks for the work you do with kids & adults at the Common Thread Farm, and for helping to network our community to support and enlarge children's gardens at our schools!
I just met Sarah Sullivan, who has a job with the Portland School district as coordinator for their school gardens, that also use the produce in the kitchen! When she comes North, again, lets get you two and the network together!
I can help post an occasional fundraiser event on this ning site if you ask me to, or you can do it on your own!
Looking forward to connecting again!
