Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition?
(Hello, just letting folks know this is an old post, don't really have time to change it yet, but I'm back from Lost Valley, living in B-ham again!)

Currently, I am in route to the Lost Valley Educational Center (Eugene, Oregon) an aspiring eco-village which teaches permaculture and sustainability skills. I will be interning as vegetarian cook for 9 months.

I have also recently been living in the Bellingham Alternative Library, a modest hub for community events and educational workshops, as well as participated in local events and workshops on permaculture, sustainability, and organic gardening.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I identify with the Transition movement for a variety of reasons.

Primarily, my education through Huxley, Western's college of the environment, has introduced me to the potentials of climate change, peak oil, etc....

I also spent 6 months living in New Zealand, participating in an ecology-based study abroad program as well as living and working on eco-villages, and retreats and spiritual centers/communities.

Back in Bellingham, I have lived in various community households, and worked for local farmers, businesses, volunteer organizations, non-profits, and art/music venues to support sustainability, health, abundance, community, environmental awareness, and education.

I have also participated in a variety of alternative "neo-tribal" gatherings, such as artistic music festivals and rainbow gatherings.

I am interested in the transition to a healthier society because I am aware of the sickness and pain of our current society. Also, I have seen the potentials of a better one :)
Do you have particular interests, skills, talents or resources you would like to bring to Transition Whatcom?
I am a musician. I used to be a member of a local six piece bellingham band called Sweet Beets. We played frequently and raised money for perhaps 7-10 local non-profits, in addition to our regular shows. One of our songs will be featured as the theme music for a seattle based movie entitled, Mission Sustainable.

As I mentioned, I will also soon be attending the Lost Valley Education Center as intern, and have connections with a variety of grassroots communities, and some neighboring farms and landtrusts within and around Bellingham.
In what neighborhood or part of the county do you reside?
I live on forest street.

Hi Aaron!  Welcome to the Earth Gardens network!  You might also like to receive a Garden E-News that Shannon volunteers to email out, once you pass your email on to her.  New member info page is at- http://transitionwhatcom.ning.com/group/organic/forum/topics/member-info-events-links

I think you'll find the E-News informative even while you are working down at Lost Valley!  Hope you make it north for the Herb Faire in August in Skagit county!

Welcome Aaron! I imagine you'll have a great experience at Lost Valley. Say 'hello' to Rick Valley, whom I met at the WA State Permie convergence last summer.
