Rob is the co-founder of Transition Town Totnes and of the Transition Network. He has many years experience in education, teaching permaculture and natural building, and set up the first 2 year full-time permaculture course in the world, at Kinsale Further Education College in Ireland as well as co-ordinating the first eco-village development in Ireland to be granted planning permission.

Vicki Robin

 


 

 

Vicki is the author of YOUR MONEY OR YOUR LIFE and a co-founder of TRANSITION WHIDBEY and board member of TRANSITION US. She teaches tele-classes on enoughness described in full on www.yourmoneyoryourlife.org.

 

Vicki has helped launch many sustainability initiatives including The New Road Map Foundation, The Simplicity Forum, The Turning Tide Coalition, Sustainable Seattle, The Center for a New American Dream, Transition Whidbey and more. In the 1990s she served on the President’s Council on Sustainable Development’s Task Force on Population and Consumption.

 

In addition to her sustainable consumption work, Vicki has been a leader in the field of dialogue. She co-created the Conversation Cafés method and initiative, promoting it first in Seattle and then throughout the world.

Trathen Heckman

 

 

 

Trathen catalyzed the creation of Daily Acts, a nonprofit in Sonoma County, California, that “provides vision, hope and effective action to create healthy, just lives and communities. Centered around the core insight that every choice you make matters, we promote the idea of ‘selfish altruism’…To do this we focus on the root issue of behavior change through hands-on green education, permaculture, sustainable agriculture, green and natural building, water conservation and community building.” Since 2002 Daily Acts has engaged tens of thousands of citizens in Sonoma County in its programs. Trathen is also a board member of Transition US.

Frances Moore Lappe’

 

 

 

Frances is the author of 18 books including the three-million copy Diet for a Small Planet. She is the co-founder of three national organizations that explore the roots of hunger, poverty and environmental crises, as well as solutions now emerging worldwide through what she calls Living Democracy. With her daughter Anna Lappé, she co-directs the Small Planet Institute based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

 

In 2008 Diet for a Small Planet was selected as one of 75 Books by Women Whose Words Have Changed the World by members of the Women’s National Book Association in observance of its 75th anniversary and was named by Gourmet Magazine as one of 25 people (including Thomas Jefferson, Upton Sinclair, and Julia Child), whose work has changed the way America eats. In 1987 Frances Moore Lappé became the 4th American to receive the Right Livelihood Award, also known as the “Alternative Nobel.” In 2008, she was presented with the James Beard Foundation Humanitarian of the Year Award for her lifelong impact on the way people all over the world think about food, nutrition, and agriculture.
