Ham Radio/ Amateur Radio Group possibilities

I took The Radio Museum's ham radio class today to get my amateur license.  I am wanting to start a group regarding this topic but want to check and see if there is any interest out there for that to be a group.

It was a great beginning to a two day class that I look forward to sitting the exam and getting a license to help out in the community and enjoy what's going on out there in the land of radio communications...:)  Please let me kn ow if this is of interest.  I received two contacts at the Harvest fest today, so that's three folks to join the group!!

Hi Jamie! I've been very interested in training as a ham radio operator for a few years.
How great you found a class!
I'd be interested in knowing ahead of time when the Radio Museum sponsors their next class.
I wonder if there is a way to find out the persons or neighborhoods where there is a ham radio & operator located at, as that would be helpful for neighbors to know if public communication systems were ever temporarily down.

This discussion you've started would be a great way to network online as a small group.
There is also a small network of hamradio operators on the transition usa online network too.

Thanks Jamie for the email for me to follow up on a future class for ham radio lisence.

I think having a few urban & county ham radio locations would be valuable; I wonder if the current Transtion Twog/admin group would consider budgeting some of the money we raised for the great unleashing towards obtaining the equipment. I'm not able to follow up on this idea, but maybe someone else is able.

Heather and Jamie The TWOG would certainly entertain such a proposal but I do not have any idea how it will go over.

Jamie, I know that Cindi L has been very interested in encouraging the expansion of ham radios.
If Tom connects with Twog as a whole and they are interested in hearing more, maybe a few of us could attend one of their fall/winter meetings when we have some rough details like cost of equipment, and who/where it would be located. I know all are lives are busy, but we can take one step at a time.

Okay Tom, well I plan on getting a radio at some point regardless of TWOG's agenda....Thanks, I'll be visitng pawn shops, that'll be a new fun adventure!

Anyone interested in taking the next ham radio exam which is on Oct 9th, here is email copy from Phil:

quote- “We had a class yesterday, 10/2, and will have the second half of the class on Saturday 10/9.
We will be offering the exam immediately after the class on 10/9.
If you like, you could go by the museum(radio) next week (open Wednesday-Sunday) and register, pick up the book and review, on your own, the material we covered yesterday. Ask for Anne.
Then attend the class on 10/9, take the test, and get your license. If you decide to go for it just let me know and I will give you an outline of what was covered on 10/2” -endquote

Heather, I'm not sure the exam is offered to others outside of our class. It's a special testing option - normally we wopuld have to go to Ferndale - which anyone can do anytime - I was sending you his info b/c then you could contact him about the next training - Hmmmm, ???? Jamie
