Ehben,

It sounds like you had a pretty strong reaction to the trademark.  I am feeling a pretty strong reaction in response, and am tempted to go into what would become a very long discussion - there's a lot of nuances to this conversation. The very shortest answer I can convey is that there are a myriad number of ways to engage in the Pattern of Exchange. Some of us work jobs in the mainstream economy so we can engage in transition activities without monetary exchange. Some invest all of their time and energy in creating a better world and hope to find income that supports that. And others do some kind of combination of the above.  I'll add that PatternDynamics has a place for free non-profit use of this tool, and another place for licensing for-profit use.

I don't think this is appropriate to have a long back and forth in the Events comments, but this would be a great topic for a Transition Whatcom Tea event.  Would you be up for that?

Hello All,

Please forgive me, but I have to laugh a bit on the day that I finally see the infiltration of 'trademarked' information on Transition Whatcom.  From the onset, I always assumed that the point of this exercise was to help each other out with things that we all found mutually confusing. I know that we all have to make a living, but please, let us let this be one of the last islands where you can ask your neighbor for a cup of sugar, with the hope that they might do the same tomorrow, and without the fear of a service charge in return. Not one of us invented the wheel on our own.  In (dis)honor of the idea of 'intellectual property', I hereby attempt to dub myself Ehben EliotTW, to symbolize my intent to always support Transition Whatcom as a forum for people who want to share ideas, not capitalize on them.
