'I Dance!' is a (mostly) outdoor dance workshop in the glory of summer in the Pacific NW. It is about the joy of dancing, speaking, and singing as our multi-faceted selves. It is about diversity. It is about union. It is about stillness and silence. It is about communion with spirit and nature - living in harmony with the Earth and each other!
This living workshop will be in the form of a Tuesday evening class in Angela and David MacLeod’s beautiful Bellingham backyard garden for 12 weeks, starting June 21 and ending Sept 6. We will have the use of their house in case of rain, and when what we're doing lends itself to an indoor experience. We will gather at 6:15, start the class at 6:30, and end at 8:30pm.
'I Dance' includes a Saturday daytime class in a beautiful country setting near Kendall on July 23, from 11 am to 5 pm.
In each class we will have a half hour warm-up time with recorded (and perhaps live) music provided by our hosts and DJs, Angela and David; this is a chance to arrive, breathe, relax and get into our bodies in our own way. We will find our own connection to the aliveness and beauty of nature.
The rest of the time will include various options. Susan Price, our facilitator, will offer simple movement scores, gentle frameworks, in which to connect to our own authentic movement. We will have some group activities and pair off for others. We will cultivate the art of seeing and being seen. We will dance from the inside out, finding our way to movement that feels connected to who we are in the moment, movement that is meaningful to us, without needing to look a certain way. We will be using movements, words and possibly music we create to stitch together a performance piece that we will perform fully as part of our ongoing practice. We can choose as a group to share this with others or not. We will sit in council circle and speak our truth from our hearts.
The suggested donation for the whole series is a sliding scale of $125-150. If this is not affordable for you, please email or call so we can make it work for all of us! Phone 360.609.8207.
Starting with the second class (June 28), it will be closed to newcomers, and will be for those people who are committed to the 12 evening classes and the Saturday daytime event. Half of the donation will be received then, and the other half in the 7th class.
Please RSVP Susan Price, susx009@gmail.com, for both the first class and the whole workshop. It will help us plan to know how many people are coming. Because of space considerations, the size of the workshop will be limited to 13 people, first come, first served, in the form of the RSVP. If you already know you want to take the whole workshop you can email Susan to register now.
About Susan Price:
Sus Price first came fully alive as a dancer at a Contact Improv workshop when she was a student at Fairhaven College. She then began exploring and then teaching various forms of Post Modern Dance, including six weeks studying Contact Improv in San Francisco, and many workshops with Deborah Hay. She helped to form and perform in the groups Trillium and Starfish Ensemble. The freedom and play she experienced in Contact Improv, Ecstatic Dance and Authentic Movement, continue to the present. In recent years she has found deep connection and soul satisfaction dancing in nature.
