Cutting Edge Scythe Workshop
With Scythe Master Alexander Vido from Victoria B.C.
Co-Sponsored by Transition Whatcom
Date: Aug. 29th 9 AM-12 discussion and demos $25
9 AM to 5 PM Full Day with hands on $90 limited to 8 .
Alexander Vido, is an active member of the International Scythe Network, promoting the use of scythes. Alexander is the co-creator of the video ”Rise of the Scythe”
(from his website http://www.scytheworks.com
The Workshop will Cover:
- Selecting the right blade and a snath for the job
- How to make the best use of what you’ve got
- Setting up a scythe and a snath
- Peening with a jig and basic freehand peening with hammer and anvil
- Sharpening and honing
- Mowing techniques
- How to avoid damaging the blade
- How to repair blade chips and cracks
Bring a scythe if you own one to get pointers on how to adjust the snath and the blade, so it fits you for best result. Old scythes with dull rusty blades and ceased adjusting parts will be hard to fully address in the short time available.
Honor your tools and they will serve you well in return.
I would emphasize that Alexander is a master craftsman, as is readily apparent from viewing his working portfolio of custom stairway installations at the website. As such he chooses to limit registration to eight participants at each location so that he can spend time coaching and perfecting the skills we will learn with each participant individually. You can contact Alexander Vido at firstname.lastname@example.org
To purchase a scythe, please contact Alexander in advance so he can get your mowing outfit ready prior to the workshop. www.scytheworks.ca or call (250) 598-0588
Pre-Registration is required
