Southfork Ecovillage Model Presentation at WWU Viking Union, Room #567

October 28, 2010 from 7pm to 9pm
The presenter for the evening will be Dr. Nicole Brown, an educator and advocate for writing for social change. She has just completed a yearlong project as a member of an international team which worked in cooperation with Gaia University. She will be sharing her knowledge, insights, and experiences in regard to ecovillage design and Gaia University. Food will be provided, featuring: Pumpkin Coconut Curry, Brown Rice, Naan.

Food Security Group

We will be supporting existing community and TW food security-oriented projects, organizations, and the local ag industry; assessing gaps and how to fill them; and starting a plan for dramatically increasing food security in the next 10-20 years.

Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition?
By my everday activities such as not owning a car, having a mindful diet and trying to not buy anything new.

I have worked on a variety of environmental related campaigns in Michigan.

I have a particular interest is sustainible food.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I have always cared deeply about the environment; however, issues such as global warming and peak oil make these environmental concerns more then a personal stance and actually threats to our society.
Do you have particular interests, skills, talents or resources you would like to bring to Transition Whatcom?
I have worked a couple of organic farms and is something I would like to continue learning about.

I have a lot of experience organizing special events and volunteers.
I studied communications and am very good at speaking with people. I am interested in environmental education.
In what neighborhood or part of the county do you reside?
Fountain district, lettered streeet
Where did you hear about Transition Whatcom and how did you find our community network website?
I was involved in the transition group in Marquette, MI (where I just moved from) and would like to continue my involvement here.

Welcome Shannon to your new home-land and to the Earth Gardens group.
There are many of us gardeners & farmers living in the urban & rural areas.
