Transition Whatcom

After 18 months of living off-grid outside of town, my wife and I have realized that with both of us working in town on different schedules it is far less sustainable to be commuting back and forth, seven days aweek, sometimes twice a day, than to simply move into town.

So, we are looking for a small house, duplex, apartment or house-share where we can keep our two dogs (a 14-year-old mutt and a 7-year-old border collie/lab). We are avid gardeners, cooks, beer brewers, cheese makers, sausage stuffers and any sort of food/beverage production.

I, Jim, am 49, a once and future professional brewer, currently bartending. Beth is 27, a former Peace Corps volunteer and cook, currently working as an AmeriCorps VISTA in WWU's Center for Service Learning.

We would like to keep our monthly rent in the $800 or under range.

Any leads would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Jim Parker

My neighbors across the street have a place that you might be interested in. It mostly likely will be ready November. You can call Debera and Jim at 738-9803
The current tenant is giving them some trouble so he's moving out but I'm not sure of all of the details. You can raise chickens there too!
Let them know that Jamie - the across the street neighbor referred you all! Happy to meet you both someday. I know what it's like to have a relationship where there are many years apart in age. My last one we were 19 yrs and 355 days apart in age. only it was the female who was older.....:)
Jamie,

Thanks so much for the lead. I will call them this afternoon once I am off work. It sounds perfect. We actually have a chicken coop that was a wedding present from Beth's best friend and one cranky hen that insists on laying her eggs out in the forest.

Look forward to meeting you, too... and possibly being neighbors.

Cheers,

Jim

The other option we are looking at is finding a like-minded roommate (or couple) who is interested in finding a three-bedroom house with room to garden, keep chickens (we have a coop) and pursue all the fun food- and beverage-making activities we enjoy. If anyone out there is looking for such a situation, drop a line.
Cheers,

Jim
