Whatcom citizens are invited to participate in a special opportunity to guide the future of Whatcom County. The Whatcom Futures project report is in its final draft stages, and review is sought from citizens in anticipation of its adoption.
The Whatcom Futures project represents a year of work, building on previous efforts from 2010. Project leaders solicited thoughtful input throughout the process, and convened stakeholders and concerned citizens from various industries and backgrounds joined by a common purpose, to envision a vibrant and sustainable future for Whatcom County. The 14 vision statements included in this document outline the ideas and aspirations for ensuring Whatcom County is a healthy and prosperous community that provides access to opportunities for all. Also included are action steps and metrics to track for evaluation, measuring success and establishing the need for continued collaboration.
The Northwest Economic Council, with support from the Whatcom Community Foundation, leads development of Whatcom Futures, a visioning process designed to invite and inspire community suggestions. The project will produce a long-term vision for the future of Whatcom County that accommodates growth, economic development, community health and equitable access to opportunities. The draft of vision statements is available for comment at http://www.nwecon.org/whatcomfuturesproject/vision-statements. The Project website includes the project charter and other project related documents.

I endorse David's invitation to comment on this "plan". They use the word "sustainable" a lot, but, in my opinion, it's basically a green washed scheme for business expansion.
