Transition Whatcom

Hi all,
I have noticed when I post to this site it automatically posts to the web all my discussions. Everything I have posted on discussions here comes up on websearches. For example, today: "Laura Ridenour replied to Heather K's discussion 'Recommended Books & Visual Resources- Grains & Beans' in the group Small
Scale Grain & Beans –Grow, ..."

I am concerned about privacy and wonder if you might be able to restrict how postings are listed on the web? If you have to be a member to join, it seems best to also consider that what gets posted is also just for members.

Thanks.
Laura Leigh.

Laura,

As is the case with most websites, content posted is available to web search engines. You can set your privacy settings to only show your content to yourself and administrators of this site, or just your friends, for photos, videos, and blog posts. For the site as a whole, we want it to be viewable to the public at large, and not just members.

From the Ning network Privacy Policy:

Content and Use of Networks

When you send messages, make postings, or otherwise post or transmit any Content within a Ning Network on the Ning Platform, others who visit or use that Ning Network may access any Personal Information within such Content. Within your Network Member settings for each Ning Network, accessible at the "Settings" link, you may be able to modify your privacy settings for certain types of Content that you make available on that Ning Network. For example, you may be able to specify that your photos, videos, and blog posts will be viewable by anyone, by your "friends" only, or only by you. Please be aware that while the general public or other Ning Members cannot view Content that you specify viewable only by you, we, the Network Creator of that particular Ning Network, and administrators designated by the Network Creator can view this information. We collect and maintain posts, messages, and other Content that you have posted or transmitted to a Ning Network, as well as information about that Content and your interaction with it.

Some of this information, such as your latest activity on the Ning Platform or a Ning Network, and the most active members of a Ning Network, will be made available to Network Creators, and may also be made available to other members of, and visitors to, the Ning Platform as well as to Third Party Application Developers.

Because you may voluntarily disclose Personal Information when you post or otherwise transmit Content, please be careful with the information that you choose to disclose.

We could set up a wiki that is just for the food group folks, and pay the $5 a month to keep it private. I would be into that, if we want to have discussions just among the food group people for nonpublic planning purposes.
