Celebrate the harvest with us at Hannegan Farm and Home on October 20th! We will be hosting a sauerkraut and food preservation workshop with Susan Hymas, Master Food Preserver with the Washington State Extension and owner of Daylight Harvest Foods. Starting at 10 and running until 1 p.m., we'll have tables set up and cabbage being shredded to show you how to make a traditional Old World batch of sauerkraut! Susan will be also discussing various forms of food preservation, the basics of fermentation and how to store your harvest to feed your family over the winter months! Cabbage will be available to shred and pack into your containers to make your own sauerkraut. Hopewell Farms of Everson will be providing the main event - the cabbage! - certified organic and locally grown - $1.25 a pound. We'll have plenty, but it would be great if you could place orders beforehand - just give a rough estimate of what you would like. Shredders will be provided at the store, but be prepared with your own containers / crocks and a lid, with a weight, to place the kraut into. We look forward to seeing you on the 20th! Give us a call at 360-389-5268 to reserve your spot!
Hannegan Farm and Home is a locally owned business committed to improving the lives of small farmers, backyard gardeners, and anyone interested in being more self sufficient. Our goal is to be more than just a place to buy stuff - although that's important too. We want to educate folks - give them the skills and knowledge to succeed at all the things our grandparents considered everyday life. Come down to Hinote's Corner and see what it's all about! Located at 6931 Hannegan Road, we are open Monday through Saturday 9-6, and Sunday 10-4. Check us out on Facebook or at www.hanneganfarmandhome.com
