Sustainable Connections brings us an encore performance of "Making Sense of Place: Portland - Quest for the Livable City" a 2009 film from the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy.
Using Portland, Oregon as its model, "Making Sense of Place: Portland" takes us to a city that strives to model a different approach to the evolution of an American city, including a belief in the ability of citizens to design the city's present and future. It examines the complex questions of urban planning and regional identity by exploring the ways in which people participate in and experience their cities.
Following the film will be a moderated panel discussion with some of Whatcom County's forefront land use professionals addressing "What is Livability?" for our community, featuring:
Darcy Jones, Jones Engineering, Inc.
Jean Melious, Whatcom County Planning Commission
Paul Schissler, Kulshan Community Land Trust
Maureen McCarthy, Whatcom Transit Authority
