Hidden treasures and verdant landscapes await you at the 4th Annual Sustainable Samish Garden Tour! Meet, network, and gain tips from Samish watershed residents who are working to cultivate a healthy, resilient, and vibrant community…one garden at a time! Experience five inspiring gardens on this FREE, friendly-to-all-ages, open house style garden tour, that features a mix of fresh food production, bountiful blooms, healthy living, and environmental and community responsibility – for wildlife, plants, water, people, and the whole earth!
This year’s event will feature a home aquaponics system (that utilizes fish and water to grow healthy plants), orchards and nut trees, organic vegetable gardens, greenhouses and raised bed gardening, winter gardening ideas, wildlife sanctuary and naturescape gardens, stream riparian and restoration projects, a low impact development diamond pier foundation system, septic system landscaping and rebuild, a little house just for bugs, and much more! Take a self-guided tour of the “Raymer Game Reserve,” a ten acre jewel that extends to a cathedral like grove of cedars near the banks of Butler Creek. Enjoy hands on demo of simple farm and garden tool repair. Learn about permaculture, bugs and pollinators, native plant landscaping, forest stewardship, drip irrigation and other water conservation techniques, tool maintenance, sustainable farming, and much more! Homeowners will be available during the tour to share their gardening experiences with you. Resources will also be available with ideas for your own yard or garden.
Free - Family Friendly - No dogs please.
Maps and directions to each of the featured gardens on this self-guided tour will be available between 10:30 am and 2 pm at the Alger Community Hall, located at 18735 Parkview Lane, Burlington 98233 (Alger). Bring a lunch! Picnic sites will be available.
