According to a couple of graphs I found on the web, here's how home energy use tends to divide up:
Space heating 28 - 31%
Water heating 11-12%
Space cooling 10-11%
Lighting 9-11%
Refrigeration 6-8%
Laundry and dishes 5%
Home office & Electronics 5-6%
Cooking 3%
Computers 1%
Other / Small electronics and motors 16-18%

I heard an interesting story the other day about how UPS realized a recent round of energy savings; they redesigned their routes to reduce the number of left-hand turns.
