Transition Whatcom

Present: Judith Culver, Kelly Bachman, Shirley Jacobson, David Marshak, Dianne Foster, Laura Sellens, Monica Sjursen, Cipriano Mauricio, Caitlin Quigley.

We discussed the Move Your Money Campaign.  We decided that it might be better to not have a speaker since we couldn't control the speaker's message.  Instead, we are currently moving toward an event which would couple a film (probably The Money Fix) with a panel of representatives from select local banks and credit unions.  Here is the info on screening The Money Fix:

"If you want host a public screening of THE MONEY FIX in your community, you may do so without obtaining a license under the following
conditions:

  1. You don't charge a mandatory admission to the screening.
  2. You let us publicize the screening on this website.
  3. You pass out some of THE MONEY FIX "pay it forward" currency at the show."

We agreed to do the actual planning for the Move Your Money campaign at our January meeting.

Judith offered a Keizer Meats update.  The cooperative's offer to the current owners has not been accepted.

Laura brought up the idea of purchasing property or items at tax auctions as a general Transition Whatcom fund/asset raising method and also a place to put, say, windmills.

The group discussed the local investing survey and came to consensus on the language of the survey and vision for local investing.  The survey is now live.

Our next meeting will be Sunday, Jan. 9 from 1-3pm in the Coop Connections building.
