Community Food Co-op Hosts 22nd Annual MLK Jr. Day Event

 

Bellingham, Washington | In honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Community Food Co-op will host its 22nd annual MLK Jr. Day event – Keeping the Dream Alive! On this evening, we will celebrate Dr. King’s notion of a “Beloved Community,” with ceremony, song, presentations, and community sharing.

Checo Tohomaso Special Musical Guest (performing throughout the evening)

Checo Tohomaso played keyboards and percussion and sang background vocals for the last European tour of Motown legend Marvin Gaye. He has also performed with Lionel Richie and the Commodores, Celine Dion, New Kids on the Block, and Reba McEntire, among others. Checo’s current focus is to communicate the positive, healing qualities of soul music to as many people as possible. Checo will be our musical guest throughout the evening. He is spirited, authentic, and true to the music. Not to be missed.

Vernon Damani Johnson – director of the Ralph Munro Institute for Civic Education, professor of political science at Western Washington University, and co-founder of the Whatcom Human Rights Task Force

 

Amanda Grelock – Community Food Co-op Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion coordinator

 

 

Community Fellowship following the main presentation: Join us downstairs in the social hall following the event for treats and our long-established MLK Day open mic. Share a poem, story, or song focused on diversity, human rights, or related issues. Presentations limited to three minutes or less. Contact karlm@communityfood.coop to sign up.
