Event Description

Futurewise Whatcom and Sustainable Connections will host a “Complete Streets” livability forum on July 13 focused on creating safe and inviting road and transportation networks in Bellingham.

Complete Streets are streets designed and operated to enable safe access for all users including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and public transportation users of all ages and abilities.

This walk and workshop brings in senior planner Pete Lagerwey of Toole Design Group, one of the nation's leading planning and design firms specializing in multi-modal transportation.

Sustainable Connections Smart Growth program focuses on local planning solutions and supports systems that model proven successful outcomes.  The Complete Streets model is different for each community, and Bellingham will implement systems to support our unique urban planning model.  This forum is a chance to hear about additional ideas that have worked well in communities across North America.  Hope to see you there.

I have to ask what is so sustainable about Seattle lately? They are spending 18 billion dollars to dig a tunnel for cars to go under the city and to expand the 520 bridge by adding another car lane. They scrapped the monorail project, which was voted on and won after spending 13.5 million dollars talking about it. Do we want to model Bellingham after Seattle?
