How are you currently involved in the Transition?

So far, mostly studying up on the twin topics of Peak Oil and Climate Change. I'm politically active and am trying to take whatever energy conservation and health promoting steps in my own life I can manage.

In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?

On the down side,I feel that changes are coming inevitably and that we shouldn't throw out Thousands of years of human ingenuity just because we currently don't need that info in our daily lives. And on the up side, well, there's zero downside to any of this. I save money, I am constantly learning which is fun for me, and end up living more lightly on my precious planet, But I also realize that while it takes individuals to solve a problem, it's a matter of scale, and some problems are far too large for just one person to fix.

Do you have particular interests, skills, talents or resources you would like to bring to Transition Whatcom?

I know a lot about personal finances (enough to actually understand exactly why our current money system doesn't work) and am pretty good at teaching about it, and about financial crisis management. (I taught a class on it Work Source, and am currently writing a book about it) My husband does heavy construction and environmental remediation (drainage, erosion control, etc.) We also have a very central location in Bellingham that could be used for project assembly, and a LOT of tools and odd equipment. Also, as odd as this skill sounds, I'm an EXPERT at shopping in the modern cultures waste stream and can find almost anything used and in good condition for very little. I also knit, sew, and crochet. And, I'm not sure this is a talent that's immediately applicable, but might be in the future, I can walk 32 miles in 8 hours if I need to, and I do marathon plus walks about once a month.

Where did you hear about Transition Whatcom and how did you find our community network website?

I found you on the internet after hearing rumors of your existence. I am currently reading The Transition Handbook by Rob Hopkins.
