Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition?
I've been building a more self sufficient and sustainable home, based on permaculture principles, for over a decade, on 5 acres near Ferndale. Currently the place is producing about half our yearly food intake, organically, in a managed forest garden. I hope to be offering classes her, through the Folk School, sometime next year.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
Suburban sprawl typically takes farmland out of production, but that need not be the case. Home gardens based on permaculture principles can be productive and beautiful, awhile remaining low demand in terms of energy, labor and water. Decentralizing food production, putting it back into the hands of all of us, is a project I get excited about.
Do you have particular interests, skills, talents or resources you would like to bring to Transition Whatcom?
I have a demo farm with examples of woodland gardening for food, rainwater harvesting, mushroom propagation, sheet mulching, aquaponics, and a sun pit greenhouse...all of which I'd be happy to share with those interested in building their own. I also have decades of experience in native landscape design, and plant propagation.
In what neighborhood or part of the county do you reside?
Laurel/Meridian
