Hi Rick, I can also help also with accessing your backyard for a garden sometime. My page shares some of my experience as a gardener & permaculturist. In the long run, adding organic matter every year to the garden, is key to improving or building soil....Its never too late or early to start a garden, and there is No one-way to create a garden, as every environment & family's resources are unique....During this pre-winter-solstice time is an ideal time to observe & map your sun & shade movements on the land...especially the morning & afternoons when the sun is lowest in the sky.....choosing a sunny garden location is key....Also this time of year is a great time to observe drainage & water flow on your land. You also might be interested in joining together with some of the local gardeners when we do garden-work trades....There are a couple garden groups on the TW site that might interest you, one is specifically for Organic Gardeners & Permaculturists. listed under 'Groups' and then click 'View All'. I hope this helps! Visiting & helping in other gardens is a great way to get started, and the earth is the best teacher.
