I ride the bus to work and school, buy local & organic when I can afford to, and pick nettles in the woods as part of my diet now that it's spring. I buy secondhand clothing, as it demands a fraction of the resources of production and promotes recycling. Who Doesn't like recycling?
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I was raised with the understanding that it is the responsibility of all to maintain a balance with the earth in order to preserve it for future generations. Now that the ramifications of our dependency on oil are becoming clear, on a macroscopic scale rather than simply local events, I feel that it is necessary for people to move beyond their individual efforts and collaborate in order to develop realistic, sustainable ways of life.
Do you have particular interests, skills, talents or resources you would like to bring to Transition Whatcom?
I am particularly interested in learning about lifestyles that work with, rather than against, the ecology of the Pacific Northwest. I'm a good listener, and through my work as a peer tutor, I am in the practice of assisting people in developing their ideas. As for resources, I'm quite poor, but I can most definitely lend my support.
In what neighborhood or part of the county do you reside?
Bellingham
Where did you hear about Transition Whatcom and how did you find our community network website?
You could ask what a favorite part of the county is, and how it contributed to participation in the transition movement... Mine is Van Zandt, and the wonderful, loving people that make up that community. It was the first place I ever heard the term, "carbon footprint."
Please note that you do not have to answer all of the above questions in order to join, and you can always come back later to edit your profile. If it's all too many questions for now, please provide a short answer below on why you'd like to join this site (or a summary of the above, if answered).
I have made this place my home, so I care deeply about what happens to it. I would like to do what I can to preserve its spendor, so I am making an effort to learn and help develop ways in which we as a community can work to live more sustainably.

Welcome- do you have a nickname? That is an unusual, celtic sounding name...I am curious as to how it is pronounced. You'll find you have lots of company on TW- I can relate to the used clothes! I find most of my clothes at second -hand shops, cheaper, recycled, and often better quality. I read some article that a guy in new york wrote, saying the new "fashion" should be old clothes...makes sense to me!
