Transition Whatcom

Can someone please tell me how I can get in touch with local Whatcom County seed savers? Are they an organized group and do they have meetings?

Hi David
Have you found your answer yet? I see it has been about a week since you posted this question. There is an organization called The Center for Local Self Reliance that may have a connection to local seed savers. I know Sustainable Bellingham co-sponsored a seed saving event in Jan/Feb of this year - you could go to their calendar and try to find the contacts for that event. And Shannon Maris has a local gardening news e-letter that may be helpful. And there are local permaculture teachers that will be hooked in with seed savers as well. Try Inspiration Farm for starters. They are in the middle of a Permaculture Course and will likely have contacts for you. Good luck.
Thanks Cindy, yes I did find the Center for Local Self Reliance (Thanks to David MacLeod). I talked with Alison Kutz-Troutman and got started thinking about what is next.
Thanks to you all.
David
Thanks Walter,
I will come over soon to talk to you about it.
Peace!
Hi David! We have the beginnings of an online network of seed-savers on this ning site now.
Look under the group section.
Also, if your interested we have the beginnings of an online organic gardeners/farmers group, an urban gardeners group, and a couple neighborhood garden groups, all found under the group section.
You're invited to join with any of these networks!
Plus, if you are interested in helping to plan & create our future seed-swap events, look for the discussion on seeed-saving under the group titled "Local Food Securtiy Planning Teams", and click on "+Join Local..".

Most of us gardener types are outside now, and we tend to share our seeds & plants all the time, and are less inclined towards indoor meetings and such.....
See you the garden....May your hands receive the seeds of the earth!
Thanks Heather,
I will look at the groups and keep them in mind for next year. I am very busy at the moment and don't have much time to donate. Thanks so much for the info. Seed saving and the gardening community is going to be so important to us all.
David
