Watershed Protection Alert - from 2/1/11-from 'Squalicum Valley Community Association' email alert partial quotes: ... B'ham City to discuss whether whether they will appeal the Whatcom County Hearing Examiner's Decision to allow the construction of Squalicum Ridge Road on Squalicum Mountain to serve 26 houses in the Lake Whatcom Watershed.

“Mayor Dan Pike ( 778-8100) has made efforts to protect the city's drinking water, and especially has petitioned the Department of Ecology to place a moratorium on new wells in the Lake Whatcom watershed.

Richard Grout, Manager, Department of Ecology, 1440 10 St., Suite 102, Bellingham WA 98225, 360.715.5200. He can be contacted if you support Ecology closing the watershed to new wells.

Ecology has already ruled that Lake Whatcom and all bodies of water in hydraulic continuity with it are closed to new withdrawals. DOE must enforce its own ruling.”

(Above info from Squalicum Valley Community Association email alert., and of course does not reflect the views of everyone living in our watersheds.)

-(Newcomers can request to be on these email alerts through Virginia W).
