Whatcom citizens are invited to participate in a special opportunity to guide the future of Whatcom County. Open house community forums are being held to provide residents the opportunity to ideas that guide the Whatcom County strategic vision for land use. The project is entitled Whatcom County Futures: Toward a Sustainable Economy. Community forums will feature a short presentation by project leaders and provide opportunities for community members to provide input on draft vision statements. Attendees are invited to suggest project goals that will support a high quality of life throughout Whatcom County. Community forums will take place in four locations throughout Whatcom County and are free and open to the public.
The Northwest Economic Council, with support from the Whatcom Community Foundation, leads development of Whatcom Futures, a visioning process designed to invite and inspire community suggestions. The project will produce a long-term vision for the future of Whatcom County that accommodates growth, economic development, environmental sustainability and equitable access to opportunities. An interim discussion draft of vision statements is available to preview and comment upon at http://www.nwecon.org/whatcom-futures-project. The Project website includes project charter, project schedule and draft vision statements, as well as opportunities to provide feedback on these documents.
