Event Description

Regenerate Whatcom, in conjunction with others in our community, is planning a series of events called Walking Whatcom Waters

These events are envisioned to be feet-on-the-ground "design immersions" that will assist us in our work of regenerating our bioregion.

We've held several online discussions with a core team, and now our first "feet on the ground" planning session is scheduled for July 27th, from 3 to 7pm (including a potluck dinner). We're gearing up to hold a bigger public event, possibly in late August.

Our time at The River Farm will include walking the land and water with steward and artist Bruce Myers, brainstorming possible topics and activities to include in the public event, fostering connections, and learning a bit about Bruce's vision using his "Clay, Nest, Web" model, with comments and reflections led by permaculture and water expert Brian Kerkvliet, of Inspiration Farm.

Care to attend this planning session and help us put on the August event, or others? Please let us know of your interest by sending an RSVP email to whatcom@regeneratecascadia.org.

This series intends to address some or all of the following topics:

  • Basic water dynamics education
  • Indigenous perspectives on water
  • Water’s role in climate change
  • The Water Adjudication process currently facing county residents, tribes, and farms
  • Water issues at River Farm and other locations we'll be visiting
  • How River Farm specifically is thinking about and approaching water rights issues
  • How water stewardship dovetails with forest management etc.
  • Provide a bridge between water rights issues and broader systems thinking and interventions
  • Position water education as a foundation for  abilities to navigate the broader processes of regenerating our bioregion
