Event Description

Hidden treasures and verdant landscapes await you at the 5th Annual Sustainable Samish Garden Tour! Meet, network, and gain tips from Samish watershed residents who are working to cultivate a healthy, resilient, and vibrant community…one garden at a time!  Experience five inspiring gardens, including two small acreage farms, on this FREE, friendly-to-all-ages, open house style garden tour, that features a mix of fresh food production, bountiful blooms, healthy living, and environmental and community responsibility – for wildlife, plants, water, people, and the whole Earth!  Pick up a wealth of gardening tips on how to grow healthy plants, including vegetables, flowers, orchards, fruits and herbs; create a backyard sanctuary for wildlife and pollinators; establish a native plant landscape or hedgerow; and how to apply conservation practices for healthier livestock and streams. Learn about permaculture, organic farming, crop rotation, drip irrigation systems, water conservation techniques, high tunnel greenhouses, raised bed gardening, runoff management, weed management, and much more! Homeowners will be available during the tour to share their gardening experiences with you.  Resources will also be available with ideas for your own yard or garden.

The event is FREE and will be held from 11 am to 3 pm on Sunday, July 31st, 2016.  Maps and directions to each of the featured gardens on this self-guided tour will be available between 10:30 am and 2 pm at the Alger Community Hall, located at 18735 Parkview Lane, Burlington 98233 (Alger).

The Sustainable Samish Garden Tour is being hosted by Chuckanut Transition, Friday Creek Habitat Stewards, and Skagit Conservation District. For more information, contact Kristi Carpenter, Skagit Conservation District at (360) 428-4313 or email:
