J4 Ranch realized their mission to convert a conventional apple and raspberry farm into a 100% certified organic, top quality blue-, black- and raspberry operation. Commitment and attention to organic values guide their farm and business plans, including USDA organic certification, and Salmon Safe practices. Walk the 103 acre farm and learn about J4’s earth-friendly, agricultural practices: how they use satellites for farm design and tractor work to reduce fuel use; their quality water sourcing; local marketing; and continuing their history of strong employee relations. See how they are realizing their dream to extend the health and well being of life.
Ben Goe, Produce Manager at the 11,000-membership, 40-year-old Skagit Valley Food Cooperative (SVFC), will be on hand to describe successful organic berry marketing from packing, packaging, presentation and delivery for freshness and quality. After the farm walk, there will be an opportunity to visit the SVFC produce department with Ben.
