Help us transform the Fairhaven Park Rose Garden Caretaker’s House
We Need your help preparing & planning now!
Auction date: Sat September 12 7pm-10pm at Leopold Crystal Ballroom
($10 or for students/senior-$5 )
Planning is well underway to transform the former Fairhaven Park Rose Garden and Caretakers House. Working with a Small & Simple grant, the South Neighborhood Association and the Edgemoor Neighborhood Association partnered with the Center for Local Self-Reliance to create a new master site plan for the area. That completed design is now being presented to city officials. Once approved, work can begin on the rehabilitation of the house, which was used as a youth hostel in the 1990’s. The house, built in 1918, has been vacant since 1998.
The Center for Local Self-Reliance is the nonprofit organization responsible for spearheading the effort to revitalize this underutilized section of the park. They have developed a website where you can find details of their work: www.caretakershouse.org While there, you can sign up to receive monthly e-news messages.
Fundraising is now underway, with a party and silent auction planned for September 12 at the Leopold Ballroom. You may contribute to the silent auction offerings by contacting Steve Wilson, firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 671-3380. Financial donations may be made directly to the Center for Local Self-Reliance, PO Box4200, Bellingham, 98227. Details can be found at http://www.caretakershouse.org/donate.html.
Volunteers Needed!! We need volunteers to help solicit donations and help out with the day of the auction! Please contact Jean Kroll at 756-0683 if you would like to help out with this important project.
