A ‘sneak preview’ public viewing hosted by Sustainable Connections, with support from the City of Bellingham is set for November 18 at the Mount Baker Theatre. The documentary’s prime time showing is the following Friday, November 26 at 7 p.m. on KCTS, Channel 9.
"This documentary highlights Bellingham as a leader in innovative and creative sustainable strategies,” Mayor Dan Pike says. “Brancaccio’s team has surely discovered what Bellinghamsters have known for a long time - that we are a community that values a sustainable approach to problem solving."
In “Fixing the Future,” Brancaccio features many local, innovative Whatcom County businesses, highlighting the sustainable fishers at Lummi Island Wild, creative innkeepers at Willows Inn, local oven manufacturers at Woodstone and hybrid vehicle gurus at Western Washington University.
“Bellingham is kind of the gold standard for sustainable, local businesses,” Brancaccio says. “It seems like people here get what it’s about.”
"Bellingham/Whatcom County’s local small businesses deserve this important national recognition for their leadership, innovation and stewardship,” said Derek Long, executive director of Sustainable Connections. “With continued effective local government and educational partnerships, as well as the support of locally vested citizens, these businesses will continue to transform our economy for the benefit of us all.”
A reception from 5:00-5:45 p.m. in the Encore Room will feature refreshments from local businesses: Boundary Bay, The Willows Inn and Old World Deli. Introductions and the documentary showing kick off at 5:45 p.m. in the Walton Theatre.
Be sure to get there early as seating will be limited. Admission is free.
